Frequencies of Rare Alleles

Faviel Gonzalez, Marcelo Fernandez-Vina, Derek Middleton

We wish to continue collecting data on the occurrence of HLA alleles, specifically those that are RARE. This is a continuation of the project of the 15th IHW in Brazil.

The results of this project were published in Tissue Antigens (2009), 74:480-5.

At present, we have not been able to find more than 40% of HLA alleles in any of our sources (allelefrequencies.net, NMDP, IMGT/HLA Database and individual laboratories). Therefore, we want to continue to expand our sources to ascertain if the allele has been found after the initial report of its sequence.

Any laboratory/individual interested will be sent two lists of alleles:

  1. alleles that have never been reported after the initial sequence
  2. alleles that have been found on 1-3 occasions after the initial sequence

We wish to know if any of these alleles have been found in your laboratory. If so, we would like to know the haplotype that the allele is found on, or failing that the phenotype of the individual in whom the allele has been found.
